RULES OF TASTINGS:

  1. List of wines is only known to Judge Prudhomme who controls the legal entity that overseas all the tasting sessions.

  2. All wines are purchased by the Grand Jury in advance of each session, but only Francois Mauss, the Chairman and his assistant (who do not sit on the tasting panel) know the full list of the wines in advance.

  3. Observers holding the for-the-purpose issued passes are allowed in the tasting room during the sessions.

  4. No contact between Judge Prudhomme, the legal entity and/or any of the tasters prior to or during the sessions are permitted.

  5. No contact between the tasters and/or any of the observers is permitted before and during the sessions.

  6. No Donations of wines for the tastings are allowed. The Selection of wines for the tasting sessions is at the complete discretion of the Chairman and the selection cannot be influenced in any way.

  7. The wines are stored in professional Euro Cave temperature and humidity controlled units prior to the tastings.

  8. The wines are decanted and tasted by professional sommeliers under the strict control of the legal entity.

  9. The wines are served at the absolute correct temperature in professional Spiegelau glasses in a random order, selected by the legal entity prior to each tasting.

  10. Tasters on the Grand Jury enter the tasting room, which is bathed in natural day-light and sit down at individual tables.

  11. The wines are already poured and presented in their individual numbered glasses.

  12. The order of which each Grand Jury member tastes the wines in their numbered glasses is completely random and selected just prior to each session by the legal entity.

  13. Each Grand Jury member must write down his/hers tasting notes on the duplicate pre-printed tasting forms and score the wines on a scale of 50-100, with 100 points being the perfect wine.

  14. There is no inter-action between Grand Jury members during the tasting sessions and there is no real time limit to the sessions. Usually, the sessions run about 2-2 ½ hours or about 4-5 minutes per wine tasted.

  15. Once Grand Jury member is finished with his/her tasting and the tasting sheets have been completed. The Chairman or his assistant will collect the tasting sheets, give the member a copy and keep the original.

  16. Once the entire session is over and all Grand Jury members finished, the whole panel will be given the list of the wines just tasted and only then can they discuss the results among themselves.

The final tally of the tasting sheets and scores is input into a sophisticated statistical computer program that tabulates the results. The results for each tasting session (that ranks the wine by score and placement within its individual category, as well as group ranking and placement) will be announced after the final day, during the Press Conference to take place at Bellagio on Saturday November 17th, 2001.
